The Heart Behind Nanna Jen’s Services

Two very special pets helped transform fear into trust, heartbreak into purpose and compassion into a business built around the needs of pets and their families.

Nanna Jen’s Services was shaped not only by decades of animal experience and a nursing background, but also by two deeply personal relationships.

Mish helped me overcome a lifelong fear of dogs and opened my heart to the extraordinary connection we can share with them.

My soul pet Cloud changed the direction of my business through his journey with congestive heart failure.

Their lives continue to influence the care I provide to every pet and family who places their trust in me.

Mish:
The Dog Who Changed My Fear Into Trust

For many years, I had a genuine fear of dogs.

That began to change when my son brought home Mish, a beautiful Mastiff.

Mish was large and powerful in appearance, yet gentle, patient and deeply intuitive. She never forced interaction or demanded trust. Instead, she allowed me to move at my own pace.

Through quiet moments, gentle companionship and her steady presence,

Mish helped me understand that dogs were not something to fear.

She taught me to look beyond size, breed and appearance and to see the individual animal in front of me.

With time, my fear softened into trust, and that trust grew into a deep respect and love for dogs.

heart I did not know was
waiting to be found."

The Lessons Mish Left With Me

Mish taught me that trust cannot be rushed.

It is built through patience, consistency, gentle communication and respect for boundaries.

Those lessons remain at the center of the way I care for anxious, rescue and fearful pets today.

I never expect a pet to trust me immediately. I allow them time to observe, approach and feel safe in their own way.

Every quiet introduction, every slow approach and every moment spent sitting patiently beside a nervous pet reflects what Mish first taught me.

This experience helped shape my calm, individual approach to anxious, rescue and trauma-affected pets.

Mish helped me overcome fear and opened my heart to dogs.

Cloud later taught me about illness, grief, devotion and the emotional weight

families carry when a beloved pet becomes seriously unwell.

Together, their stories helped shape both the heart and the purpose of Nanna Jen’s Services.

Cloud: My Best Friend and Soul Pet

Cloud was not simply my pet.

He was my best friend, my soul pet, my constant companion and a deeply loved member of my family.

When I was home, we shared the same familiar evening routine.

We would sit together and cuddle before he wandered into bed to wait for me.

Those quiet, ordinary moments became some of the most precious memories of my life.

Cloud brought comfort, companionship and unconditional love through many chapters of my journey. His presence became part of my daily life, and his bond with me was unlike any other.

The Night Our World Changed

On 23 July 2024, Cloud and I had spent the evening together, just as we always did when I was home.

After our cuddles, he wandered into bed to wait for me.

Moments later, I heard a sound I had never heard before and will never forget.

Cloud suddenly became critically ill. With the help of my sister, I rushed him to the emergency veterinary hospital.

That night began our journey with congestive heart failure and marked the start of one of the most frightening and heartbreaking periods of my life.

Holding Onto Hope

Cloud required specialist veterinary care, medication and close monitoring.

We were initially told he may have another 18 months.

I held tightly to that hope and immediately began arranging everything he would need for the future.

I planned for his ongoing treatment, medication and comfort, believing we still had more time together.

I imagined more cuddles, more familiar routines and more quiet evenings beside the boy who meant so much to me.

Sadly, we were not given the time we had prepared for.

A Goodbye I Never Expected

Just two weeks later, while I was in hospital myself, Cloud reached the end of his journey.

I could not physically be beside him, but my family remained with him, so he was surrounded by people who loved him.

Through a video call, I was able to speak to Cloud, tell him how deeply I loved him and take part in a small farewell ceremony as he peacefully closed his eyes for the final time.

I will always be grateful that technology allowed me to say goodbye, but nothing could replace holding him in my arms.

Cloud was my best friend and my soul pet. Having to farewell him through a phone remains one of the hardest and most painful experiences of my life.

How Cloud Changed Nanna Jen’s Services

Losing Cloud changed me personally, but it also changed the direction of Nanna Jen’s Services.

In his honor, I strengthened the focus of my business around the care of senior pets, medical-needs pets and families navigating palliative and end-of-life care.

His journey gave me an even deeper understanding of the fear, uncertainty, exhaustion and emotional weight families carry when a beloved pet becomes seriously unwell.

It reinforced the importance of compassionate communication, careful routines, dignity, comfort and simply being present during vulnerable moments.

Cloud’s legacy now lives within every senior pet I comfort, every medical routine I carefully follow and every family I support through difficult decisions.

His life changed my heart. His loss deepened my purpose. His legacy helped shape my business.

What Mish and Cloud Taught Me

Mish taught me that trust must be earned gently.

Cloud taught me how deeply illness and loss can affect an entire family.

Together, they helped shape the way I care for every pet entrusted to me.

Their influence can be seen in:

🐾 The patience I offer anxious and fearful pets
🐾 The respect I give each animal’s boundaries
🐾 The careful attention I give medication and medical routines
🐾 The comfort I provide to senior and palliative-care pets
🐾 The communication and reassurance I provide to families
🐾 My belief that familiar surroundings often help pets feel safest

Why Home Matters

Both Mish and Cloud reinforced my belief that animals feel safest when they are understood, respected and surrounded by familiarity.

For many pets, home holds their routines, favourite resting places, familiar scents and daily rhythm.

That is why Nanna Jen’s Services focuses on personalised in-home pet care whenever possible.

Remaining at home can be particularly valuable for senior, anxious, rescue, medical and special-needs pets who may find unfamiliar environments stressful.

My role is to help maintain the life they know—while providing calm companionship, careful observation and consistent care from one trusted person.

Their Legacy Lives On

Mish and Cloud are no longer physically beside me, but their influence remains within the heart of Nanna Jen’s Services.

Mish lives on in every anxious or fearful pet I patiently allow to trust me in their own time.

Cloud lives on in every senior or medical needs pet I comfort and every family I support through illness or loss.

Their stories remind me that the smallest moments often matter most—a familiar routine, gentle reassurance, careful observation or simply sitting quietly beside a pet who needs someone.

Every animal I care for carries a small part of their legacy with them.

Mish opened my heart.
Cloud gave my work deeper purpose.
Together, they helped create the heart behind Nanna Jen’s Services.

For Mish and Cloud

To Mish—thank you for helping me overcome my fears and showing me the gentleness, loyalty and love dogs can bring into our lives.

To Cloud—thank you for being my best friend, my soul pet and one of the greatest loves of my life.

You both changed me in different ways, and the lessons you gave me continue through every pet and family I have the privilege of caring for.

Nanna Jen’s Services would not be what it is today without you.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Always part of the heart behind my work.
